Students gain a basic understanding of vocal technique and development. They pay close attention to breathing, tone development, and vocal diction.
This course also provides a study of Italian diction and expressiveness of text in songs and arias. Students gain an understanding of sound production and correct pronunciation of the Italian language.

  1. Beginners: breathing techniques, diction, support and development and simple vocalization.
    Repertoire: Arie Antiche, Chamber Music and Art Song.
  2. Intermediate: a more intensive study of breathing techniques, proper support, diction, vocalization (scales and arpeggios).
    Repertoire: Bel Canto Art Songand Opera Arias (Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini).
  3. Advanced: refining technique (Support and vocal production), lyric diction (including  German and French, study of stage craft). Vocalization (advanced scales and arpeggios) and overall song interpretation.
    Repertoire: Lieder; Mèlodies; Italian, French, and German Opera.

The school offers both long and short program modules of study. Students can choose to study the entire academic semester or for just one month.
The courses are taught by professional musicians and teachers who regularly win prestigious performing arts awards and competitions.
The courses are open to undergraduate and graduate students coming from Conservatories and Colleges, as well as private schools.
All classes are conducted in English and the courses contents are quite varied, allowing students to attend various courses within the same semester.
Students who are interested in performance will have to audition in order to allow our instructors to know the level and placement for each student.

Our semester program offers the students the possibility of studying the greatest composers of music history, whether classical or modern, giving them the opportunity to do so in Florence, a city rich in culture and history.

An academic semester is a suitable period in which to understand, assimilate, and enrich the various factors that make Italy, and its population, in that particular nation that manages to fascinating with its charm and uniqueness to everyone who visits.

We propose 14 weeks of classes, workshops, concerts, and masterclasses, during which the student can live, learn, and breathe the incredible richness of Italian musical culture.

IL TRILLO is a private music school founded in 1999 in the heart of Florence, cradle of “Opera Lirica” and one of the most important cities in the history of the Arts.  Florence, in fact, is considered one of the most vibrant, arts-oriented cities in the world. Therefore, Il Trillo has access to superb theater, recital halls and historic churches within the city for performances, in addition to practice and lesson classrooms and halls at the school.

Florence has been the birthplace and has seen grow some of the greatest and significant artists of all times. Its location in the central area of Italy, means that it has a privileged geographical position and can be reached in only a few hours (2 max.) by train from Milan, Rome and Venice.

The school’s mission is to provide a practical and direct learning experience in music, based on small groups, hour-long lessons and class meetings, and co-curricular opportunities such as concerts, operas and masterclasses, that guarantee a high quality involment for our students.

The courses are open to undergraduate and graduate students coming from Conservatories and Colleges, as well as private school.

All classes are conducted in English and their content is quiet varied, allowing students to attend various courses within the same semester.

Our friendly and supportive atmosphere nurtures creativity and encourages students to achieve their best.

CV Matteo Dentellato

Matteo Dentellato is president of the Il Trillo School of Music, vice president of Florence International Music services, and director of the Il Trillo Corea Italian Music School. With a diploma in classical piano, Maestro Dentellato perfected his studies while working with prestigious musicians at the Conservatory “Morlacchi” of Perugia in their “International Musical Interpretation” program, studying under Maestro Guido Agosti. Matteo also took part in the “Composition and Analysis of Modern Music” program at the music school of Fiesole, studying under Maestro Sylvano Bussotti. At the Music Academy of Pescara, under Maestro Franco Donatoni, he studied “Modern Composition” and shortly thereafter headed to Paris to complete various seminars in electronic music through IRCAM. He was chosen to record a concert for R.A.I. television as a promising young pianist. In the field of contemporary and electronic music, Matteo has performed in numerous concerts for theatre and dance. As the director of the Centro Cultura Contemporanea of Florence, Matteo was asked to compose music for an installation project of young artists from Berlin. Aside from performance, Matteo specializes in music education and has taken part in numerous courses on new teaching methods for children. He utilizes these skills during informative courses which enlighten the relationship between children’s literature and music. His work in this field has been presented at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome and at the Teatro Comunale in Florence. Matteo Dentellato has created and produced, with Maria Clara Medina, various educational music theater projects for children that are presented in public and private schools. He is an artistic director for the Florence International Music Festival and Flautisti in Festa.

Maria Clara Medina is president of Florence International Music Services, vice –president of the Il Trillo School of Music, and director of Il Trillo Corea Italian Music School. Maria Clara received her diploma in classical piano from the Conservatory of Florence under C. Saldicco and in chamber music under Piernarciso Masi at the International Piano Academy (“Incontri con il maestro di Imola”). She perfected her  studies with V. Berman. She graduated with honors from the University of Florence with a degree in philosophy (Prof. S. Givone) and based her thesis on the writings of several philosophers and theorists of music. She has received many first-place prizes in various national competitions. She studied at the Salzburg Summer Academy with S. Perticaroli, taking part in master-classes by Piernarsciso Masi and Aquiles Delle Vigne. As a soloist and a chamber musician, Maria Clara performs frequently throughout Italy and Europe (Lugano, Trani, Paris, France, Salzburg, Rome etc.). Apart from her performing career, she teaches piano and chamber music. She also organizes concerts, master-classes, and seminars on music-teaching methods in addition to a variety of standard music courses. She specializes in music education and has taken part in numerous courses on new teaching methods for children. Maria Clara has created and produced, with Matteo Dentellato various educational music theater projects for children that are represented in public and private schools.

She is an artistic director for the Florence International Music Festival and Flautisti in Festa.
